Alberta Invites Nominations to Celebrate Champions of Senior Care

Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): The Alberta government has opened nominations for the Minister’s Seniors Service Awards, calling on communities to recognise individuals and organisations that have made a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors across the province.

The annual awards honour exceptional service and dedication to improving the well-being, inclusion and quality of life of older Albertans. Individuals, businesses and non-profit groups whose work supports seniors are eligible for recognition.

Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services Jason Nixon said seniors play a vital role in Alberta’s communities and deserve strong support networks. He noted that the awards provide a chance to acknowledge those who consistently go above and beyond to ensure seniors are respected, connected and cared for.

Among the honours is the Alice Modin Award, presented to a senior individual or couple who have shown outstanding long-term volunteer service to their community and the province. The award commemorates Alice Modin, whose advocacy led to the creation of Seniors’ Day and the annual provincewide Seniors’ Week.

In addition, a Special Service Award will be presented in 2026. Known as the Stronger at Every Age Award, it recognises initiatives that promote inclusive and age-friendly communities. This includes efforts to improve accessibility and transportation, reduce social isolation, encourage intergenerational connections and help seniors remain active and independent.

Nominations for the Minister’s Seniors Service Awards are open until April 30. Submissions can be made online or sent by mail or email. More information, including details on previous recipients, is available through official government channels.

Award recipients will be formally recognised at an in-person ceremony scheduled to take place later this fall.
