Patiala (Gurpreet Singh): The legal troubles of Aam Aadmi Party legislator Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra have deepened, with police issuing arrest warrants against 16 people linked to him, including his son Harjashan Singh alias Jashn and personal aide Gurpreet Singh Gurri. Others named include AAP’s district youth chief Amar Singh Sanghera along with several associates.
The FIR, registered at Civil Lines police station in Patiala, accuses the group of harbouring the absconding MLA, obstructing police action, and disturbing peace. Pathanmajra, who is wanted in connection with a rape case, remains untraceable despite searches being carried out in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and neighbouring states. His anticipatory bail plea is expected to come up before the Patiala court today.
In a parallel development, the MLA’s wife Simranjit Kaur has petitioned the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking security for herself and her family. She has alleged that her husband is being victimised for political reasons after he openly criticised irrigation department officials for mishandling flood management in his constituency. According to her, following his statements, the government withdrew the family’s security cover and reshuffled local police officials.
The petition further claims that Gurpreet Kaur—the woman who filed the FIR—is Pathanmajra’s second wife and has previously lodged similar complaints. It also accuses police of raiding the MLA’s relatives’ homes, detaining his supporters, and attempting to portray him as a criminal. Kaur has urged the court to restore security and order an independent review of the cases registered.
The High Court has issued notices to the Punjab government and directed officials to respond, even as police continue their manhunt for the legislator.
