Wedding Photography Business Owner Shot Dead in Surrey; IHIT Rules Out Gang Conflict

Surrey ( Rajeev Sharma) : Homicide investigators have released the identity of a man who was found suffering from fatal gunshot wounds on a Surrey street Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after 12 p.m., the Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded to reports of a man lying near a property on 176 Street, just north of the Grandview Heights area. When officers arrived, they located the injured man, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in shortly afterward and has since taken over the investigation.

On Wednesday, in an effort to advance the case, IHIT identified the victim as 46-year-old Baljinder “Binder” Singh Garcha, a resident of Surrey.

According to investigators, Garcha was a well-known figure in Surrey’s business community. He owned and operated a wedding photography business and was also involved in a limousine service and a banquet hall enterprise.

“Based on initial investigative steps, investigators do not believe there is a connection to the B.C. gang conflict and are working diligently to understand the circumstances that led to the death of Mr. Garcha,” said IHIT Media Relations Officer Sukhi Dhesi.

Police say the investigation remains active and are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward as they continue to piece together the events leading up to the fatal shooting
