Zelenskyy, Modi Discuss Ukraine War, Sanctions on Russia in Detailed Talks

Kyiv, August 11, 2025: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a detailed conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, covering bilateral ties, diplomatic cooperation, and the ongoing war in Ukraine. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Modi for his warm words of support for the Ukrainian people.

According to Zelenskyy, he briefed Modi on recent Russian attacks, including a strike on a bus station in Zaporizhzhia that injured dozens of civilians. He condemned the attack as a deliberate bombing of an urban facility, accusing Russia of rejecting ceasefire efforts and pursuing continued occupation and violence.

Zelenskyy welcomed India’s backing of Ukraine’s peace initiatives, noting that Modi agreed all decisions concerning Ukraine must involve Kyiv directly. “Other formats will not deliver results,” he stressed.

The two leaders also discussed sanctions against Russia. Zelenskyy emphasized the need to curb Russian energy exports, especially oil, to weaken Moscow’s ability to fund the war. He urged leaders with influence over Russia to send a strong and unified message to Moscow.

Plans were made for a personal meeting in September during the UN General Assembly, alongside an exchange of visits between the two nations.
