New Delhi, October 29, 2025: Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met members of the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade Affairs (INTA) in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss strengthening trade and investment relations between India and the European Union.
The discussions aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation and identifying new avenues for mutual economic growth. According to the Ministry of Finance, both sides explored ways to expand trade partnerships and promote investment flows that support long-term economic resilience.
“Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. @nsitharaman met the Committee on International Trade Affairs #INTA from the European Parliament @Europarl_EN in New Delhi today. The discussion with the delegation focused on enhancing India-EU trade and investment ties, with both sides looking forward to deeper and mutually beneficial cooperation,” the ministry said in a statement on X.
The meeting reflected India’s ongoing efforts to diversify its trade alliances and strengthen global economic partnerships. The dialogue also touched on collaboration in technology, manufacturing, and sustainable development — key areas driving India’s global trade agenda.
Earlier this week, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal visited Brussels from October 26–28 and held discussions with European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic on key issues surrounding the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to achieving a “mutually beneficial, balanced, and equitable trade agreement,” built on political trust and strategic cooperation while respecting each other’s economic sensitivities.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the two sides have set a target to conclude the India-EU FTA by the end of 2025, following directions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during the Commission’s visit to New Delhi in February 2025.
