Abbotsford (Rajeev Sharma): A 23-year-old woman was arrested for impaired driving after her vehicle crashed into a residential house in Abbotsford, British Columbia, early Sunday morning, authorities said.
The Abbotsford Police Department stated that officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of Nanaimo Crescent shortly before 12.30 am following reports of a serious collision involving a vehicle that had rammed into a home.
Police said the driver was taken into custody at the scene. She was found to be driving under the influence and had alcohol levels more than twice the legal limit. Fortunately, no one inside the residence was injured in the incident.
Authorities confirmed that criminal charges will be recommended against the accused.
The Abbotsford Police Department also highlighted its ongoing efforts to curb impaired driving, noting that since January 1 this year, officers have removed 116 impaired drivers from the city’s roads.
According to data from the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC), more than half of all impaired driving crashes in the province occur on weekends, with over one-third taking place between 9 pm and 3 am.
ICBC data further shows that impaired driving remains a major safety concern in British Columbia, with an average of 65 people losing their lives in such crashes every year.
