New Delhi, December 10, 2025— Aviation regulator DGCA has summoned IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers to appear at its office on Thursday as part of an ongoing investigation into the airline’s severe operational breakdown, which led to thousands of flight cancellations, delays and rescheduling across the country.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said Elbers has been directed to present himself at 3 pm, accompanied by senior officials from all concerned departments. The regulator has sought a detailed report covering flight restoration progress, pilot and cabin crew recruitment plans, updated strength of personnel, the number of cancellations, and refunds processed.
The summons follows an unprecedented spell of disruptions that forced the DGCA to set up a four-member committee to identify the root causes of the crisis. The probe panel includes Joint DG Sanjay Brahamane, Deputy Director General Amit Gupta, senior Flight Operations Inspector Kapil Manglik and FOI Lokesh Rampal. The team will assess IndiGo’s manpower planning, fluctuations in crew rostering, and its preparedness to implement the revised flight duty and rest norms for pilots.
DGCA chief Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, who announced the inquiry on December 5, said the committee will also review the airline’s compliance with the updated Flight Duty Time Limitation standards. The investigation will focus on operational gaps acknowledged by the airline and determine accountability for the planning failures that triggered nationwide disruptions.
