Chandigarh, October 10, 2025: The Chandigarh Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the death of senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, officials confirmed on Friday. Security has also been tightened outside his government residence in Sector-11 as the inquiry gains momentum.
Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer, was found dead at his official accommodation on October 7. Preliminary findings suggest suicide, with a note reportedly recovered from the spot alleging sustained mental harassment and caste-based discrimination by several senior officers.
Acting on a complaint by his wife, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, the police have registered an FIR under sections related to abetment of suicide and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The complaint names multiple senior Haryana Police officials, including some serving in key positions.
According to officials, the SIT will look into all angles of the case, including allegations of workplace bias, the authenticity of the suicide note, and Kumar’s recent official communications. Investigators are also expected to review his professional assignments and interactions leading up to his death.
Amneet P Kumar has urged for a fair and transparent investigation and requested corrections to the FIR to include all names and allegations stated in her complaint. The case has triggered widespread concern in administrative and police circles across Haryana and Chandigarh, with growing calls for accountability and institutional reform.
